The Event & Marketing Manager turns that mission into action by engaging the community, elevating local businesses through quality events and strategic marketing, and collaborating seamlessly with Chamber staff, volunteers, stakeholders, and our Events and Marketing Committees.
 
Position Summary
 
The Events and Marketing Manager leads the strategic planning and execution of the Chamber’s events and marketing initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and Destination Management Organization (DMO) objectives. This role is responsible for the coordination, maintenance, conception, and delivery of a dynamic portfolio of member-focused and community events, as well as a year-round, integrated marketing and communications program. Based in Cannon Beach and working in close collaboration with the Chamber’s Events and Marketing Committees, the manager oversees all phases of event production—from initial planning and budgeting through on-site leadership and post-event evaluation—while advancing a consistent, brand-aligned presence across digital, print, social, and earned media platforms.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
 
Marketing Administration
 
  • Maintain, develop marketing goals, and implement comprehensive marketing plan based on organizational objectives, market trends, and budget considerations.
  • Coordinate marketing activities to promote products or services, collaborating with advertising and promotion managers.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing programs and strategies, making adjustments as necessary to meet goals.?
  • Communicate with event staff, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of events and marketing initiatives.
Event Leadership
 
  • Maintain the master calendar of Chamber events (e.g., Membership Awards Ceremony, 4th of July Parade, Halloween Treat Trail).
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director to draft, monitor, and reconcile event budgets; track P&L; obtain permits, insurance, and vendor contracts.
 
  • Plan and coordinate all aspects of events, including venue selection, accommodations, transportation, catering, signage, and special needs requirements.
  • Review and approve event bills for accuracy and authorize payments.?
  • Source, negotiate, and manage venues, vendors, caterers, speakers, and sponsors; create and sell sponsorship packages.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers and temporary staff.
  • Produce detailed production schedules, run-of-show documents, and safety/sustainability plans.
Marketing & Communications
 
  • In partnership with the Marketing Committee, create the annual marketing plan and media budget; establish and track KPIs and ROI.
  • Produce or supervise copywriting, graphic design, photo/video content, weekly e-newsletter, e-mail campaigns, paid media, and experiential activations.
  • Manage “Experience Cannon Beach” social channels and Chamber website, ensuring brand consistency, UX/accessibility, SEO, and ADA compliance.
  • Host press and influencer visits; develop media kits and itineraries; monitor and report on earned-media coverage.
  • Compile, create, and present clear performance and marketing reports—as requested—to Chamber committees, the Board of Directors, City officials, and other key stakeholders.
Committee Liaison & Stakeholder Relations
 
  • Serve as staff liaison to Events Committees (e.g., Sandcastle Contest, Stormy Weather Arts Festival, Haystack Holidays) and the Marketing Committee; coordinate agendas, minutes, and timely action items.
  • Present event and marketing updates at board meetings; provide periodic financial and status reports to the Executive Director.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners, schools, civic leaders, and industry stakeholders to maximize event success and marketing reach.
Administration & Compliance
 
  • Maintain accurate financial, contractual, and participation records for all events and marketing projects.
  • Develop and manage budgets for marketing campaigns and events, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with financial goals.
  • Monitor expenditures and analyze financial performance related to marketing and event activities.
  • Ensure compliance with ORS?279B, Oregon Administrative Rules, OSHA standards, and ADA accessibility requirements.
  • Protect attendee and applicant data in accordance with Oregon privacy laws and Chamber policies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
 
  • Event ROI targets and attendee-satisfaction scores.
  • Growth in website sessions and conversions driven by marketing campaigns.
  • Year-over-year increases in social-media reach and engagement.
  • Sponsor-retention rate and new-sponsorship revenue.
    KPI thresholds are set collaboratively within 60
    ?days of hire and reviewed at least annually.
Required Qualifications
 
  • Education & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in marketing, hospitality, communications, event management, or a closely related field preferred but not required. Applicants may substitute an equivalent combination of education, professional training, and 2–5?years of progressively responsible experience in large-scale event production and multichannel marketing.
  • Technical Skills – Microsoft?365; Adobe Creative Cloud; Canva; CRM/ticketing platforms; social-media management tools; basic web CMS.
  • Core Competencies – Budget management, vendor negotiation, volunteer leadership, analytical reporting, relationship-building, and superior written and verbal communication.
  • Licenses/Certifications – Valid driver’s license and insurability.
  • Physical & Schedule – Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and work evenings/weekends during key events.
Preferred Qualifications
 
  • Experience delivering culturally responsive programming and/or implementing sustainable event practices (e.g., Leave-No-Trace).
Compensation & Benefits
 
  • Salary: $65,000??$75,000 DOE (in compliance with Oregon Pay Equity Act).

Work Environment & Employment Status
 
  • 40?hrs/week in office; extended hours as event schedules require.
  • Exempt under FLSA Executive/Administrative tests.
  • This position requires the use of office equipment where some agility and hand eye coordination are needed. Also, the ability to move or lift up to 40?lbs during set-up/tear-down, with or without accommodation, lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, or constant movement is required on event days.
