OPENING RECEPTION: Please join us Friday, January 20th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the Opening Reception of our first exhibits of 2023 . . . "REFLECTIONS"! This Open House event is FREE to the public and will feature UVA's 5 brand new exhibits, small bites and sips, live music by Neil Gregory Johnson, staff remarks at 5:30 p.m., and celebration of the featured artists and their incredible works!
EXHIBIT DATES: January 20th – March 17th, 2023
ABOUT THE EXHIBITS: "Filaments" in Hallie Brown Ford Gallery: UVA is proud to be the first location to exhibit “Filaments”, a juried traveling exhibition of fiber arts made by local Oregon fiber artists. Oregon is home to a lively community of spinners and weavers. This exhibition is a special showcase of the contemporary styles, designs, and techniques that weavers in Oregon are using to create works that reinvent our understanding of fiber as more than just a craft.
"Jon Leach Retrospective" in Red Door Gallery: Jon Leach was an abstract painter known for his mixed-media approach which utilizes a fluid imagery. Deep tones swim in pools as brighter colors rise to the surface and quietly recede in the image. Organic shapes are formed, and the mediums create organic shapes in layers that are peeled back by the viewer.
“More Than Meets the Eye” in the Corridor Gallery: An exhibition of 25 photographs by Corvallis artist Rich Bergeman that explore the transformative effects of infrared light Northwest landscapes ranging from Oregon’s high desert to the cascades, the central coast, and the Willamette Valley. “I especially like to use infrared when photographing my favorite subject – the vanishing evidence of the Northwest Frontier. Infrared adds an ethereal, disquieting quality that helps nudge the viewer’s imagination outside the present and into another dimension.” -Rich Bergeman
"JLynn Petersen Retrospective" in Gallery II: An exhibit of beloved Douglas County resident, artist, and Umpqua Valley Arts member J. Lynn Peterson’s artwork. J. Lynn Peterson is a multi-disciplinary artist, and her work employs many graphic design and illustrative elements that always told a story. She was an avid supporter of the arts and a long-standing member of UVA’s artist community.
