Papermaking with Recycled Materials
Handmade paper can be used in bookmaking, printmaking, and drawing, as well as being an art from all on its own. This hands-on workshop will cover a brief history of papermaking and will introduce the basics of western style paper making using a mould and deckle. You will learn how to form sheets and experiment with inclusions and other techniques to make one-of-a-kind sheets to use in your own art practice. This is an eco-friendly process that you can repeat at home using materials you already have, such as an ordinary kitchen blender, frames, embroidery hoops, junk mail and found objects.
Students will learn how to create paper pulp, form sheets, add inclusions (like flowers, plants and fiber), how to laminate and how to make seed bombs with paper pulp.
Workshop cost: $80 + Material cost: $10
